    STONEGRILLS
Every Monday and Tuesday we offer stonegrill meals – two for the price of one (the meal of lesser value is free)!
If you haven’t had a Stonegrill meal before you should try it out - your food is cooked by YOU, at your table, on a 400 degree Celsius volcanic rock, with no added fats or oils. Just like a mini BBQ, cooked to perfection because you cooked it!
This deal is available Monday and Tuesday*, Midday – 1.30pm, and then again from 5.30pm onwards. We only have a limited number of stones (and they take a good few hours in the oven to heat back up) so they're only available on a first-in, first-served basis. Get in quick so you don't miss out!
    * excluding public holidays
    STEAKS AND BURGERS
If stonegrills don't tickle your fancy (or you missed out), never fear - we have 2 of our Porterhouse Steak meals for $35, or any 2 of our Burgers for $30. These deals are on every Monday and Tuesday* evening, from 5.30pm.

Eyegum Wednesdays: French for Rabbits at San Fran - Wellington
Eyegum Music Collective Presents French for Rabbits & Special Guest*
    This show is free entry!
French for Rabbits hail from Waikuku Beach, a small settlement in New Zealand’s South Island. They play music that drifts on the edge of fragility, but expands out into washing layers of ethereal, nostalgic dream-pop. Vocalist and primary songwriter, Brooke Singer, expresses intimate narratives against the cast of the damp colonial cold; her voice delicately steeled against John Fitzgerald’s winsome guitar lines, and the eerie instrumentation of their band mates. It’s a weather-beaten dreamscape, nostalgic for warmth and hopefully lilting towards sunnier climes.

their music’s beating heart is often shrouded by atmospherics and mystique, and they seem to operate under the rightful assumption that a well-placed whisper can be as powerful as dramatically belting it out.
    — Stereogum

Doughnuts for Charity - Wellington SPCA+
Passionate about supporting and growing its local culture, The Cross is delighted to present:
    DOUGHNUTS FOR CHARITY!
If you come by any Friday, Saturday or Sunday morning, you can not only treat yourself to a delicious filled doughnut from our cabinet, but earn yourself a bit of good karma while you're at it - the proceeds from the sales of these treats go straight to our current Charity of the Month!
Each month we fundraise for a different local Te Aro or Wellington charity though our Charity of the Month programme - doing our bit to help them help those in need. Even if you miss out on a doughnut, we invite you next time you're here to do your good deed for the day by chucking some gold (or whatever you can spare) in the donation box to help support your community!
August's Charity of the Month: Wellington SPCA
Wellington SPCA helps protect approximately 5,000 animals in the Wellington region every year. These are animals who are sick, injured, lost, abused or abandoned. Help us to help them protect local animals in need! Find out more about them here
To find out more about our previous charities and the money we've raised, check out our Community page here. If you're interested in having your local charity nominated for Charity of the Month, get in touch - we'd love to hear from you.

    KidzStuff Puppet Show and Workshop+
Every fortnight The Cross celebrates free theatre for children with either a puppet show & workshop or an interactive production of a well known fairy tale from Playshop.
Today we have Fingal from KidzStuff Theatre, our puppeteer master - she and her puppet friends have an exciting tale to tell, and their show will be followed by a puppet making workshop - just bring a sock and you could be leaving with a new puppet friend!
Every other fortnight, on the second Saturday of the month, we host Playshop's interactive kids theatre productions, where the actors and kids recreate classic fairy tales, using dress ups, props and creative minds!
As per all our activities at The Cross, the shows are free, so come one come all, bring a friend or three and enjoy some fun theatre and stories. Shows start at 11am in our Guest Room so make sure you're in nice and early to secure a good spot.
These shows will go hand in hand with our other weekendly kids activities such as face painting, crafts and colouring-in. Check out our kids activities here, or sign up to our newsletter here to stay in the loop with other events and fun things happening at The Cross for the little ones.
Southern Cross are proud sponsors of KidzStuff Theatre. If you enjoy these shows, check out their other plays and performances - usually in the school holidays!

Mermaidens Perfect Body NZ Tour-with The Courtneys (CA) and Draghound
Mermaidens are taking their forthcoming album, Perfect Body on tour around Aotearoa. Perfect Body is the band’s first international album and is set for release via Flying Nun on August 4th. Perfect Body features many of the familiar characteristics of the Mermaidens’ sound; with twinkly, reverb-laden guitar lines, rich vocal harmonies and vibrant drums. Their latest record expands on these sounds through bringing in even more dynamic elements. Perfect Body sees the band explore a wide range of guitar textures, rich melodic layers and distinctive levels of dissonance. Each song bursts with energy and variety, with contrasting light and dark, while leaving space for mellow and brooding instrumentals that underpin powerful vocal melodies. The band’s show for NZ will mostly be made up of tracks from their latest record, as well as material from previous releases Undergrowth and O.
Don’t miss Mermaidens in the heat of their new record, Perfect Body, on tour around the country this August/September –
they’re set to make a similar impact on the global music scene as they have at home in New Zealand.
