    King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Mild High Club, La Luz (Second Show)
    King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard announce their first headline New Zealand tour with Mild High Club (USA) and La Luz (USA).
    It has been a massive year internationally for KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD as they carved up and/or sold out almost every date on their global tour in the biggest venues and best festival spots they’ve played to date. To date, their sole appearance in New Zealand has been a massive one at Laneway in Albert Park, so the band have decided to gather up some of their favourite friends from around the world and play some seriously sweaty shows in the kinds of clubs that first made the band’s intense live shows nothing short of legendary!
    Joining the band for this epic New Zealand jaunt are L.A’s psych-pop pals Mild High Club, fresh from releasing their trippy collaboration with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard “Sketches of Brunswick East”, and California’s finest surf rock outfit La Luz!
    Yes, we know, these venue sizes may seem like wild choices for this mega-lineup, but it’s important to remember that this is a band who like to have a good time, and sometimes to do that, you gotta get up close and personal with like-minded people who are down to party, King Gizzard style. Yowwwwww!

    Future Islands Fifth album, The Far Field, features the best set of songs yet: both an emotional summation of the themes theyve explored over the past decade and a further distillation of their signature art-pop sound. Its the first Future Islands record featuring live drums by Michael Lowry, who joined the band prior to their viral performance of Seasons on Letterman, and whose energy propels the bands sound to new heights. With Congletons production and string and horn arrangements by Patrick McMinn, The Far Field finds Future Islands crafting soundscapes larger and more opulent than ever before, as sonically lush and expansive as they are lyrically raw and direct. Shadows, a stunner of a duet between Herring and Blondies Debbie Harry, offers a naked look at heartache, finding hope and power in facing pain and personal flaws head-on.
    Samuel T Herring, Future Islands’ crooner and gymnastic centrepiece, has just picked himself up off the floor. “It took 1,070 shows to fall the f*** off the stage,” he says. “Don’t worry, I’m okay.” It’s an occupational hazard for Herring, who fronts the band with boundless energy and a menagerie of dance moves. – The Independent
    It takes all of five songs for Samuel T Herring’s checked shirt to transition from ironed fabric to sodden dishrag. Future Islands’ frontman looks as though he has just crawled on to a beach after a boating accident – wild-eyed, gesticulating, drenched. To list Herring’s many antics over the course of the set feels like a cheap shot, reducing to mere spectacle a complex and footnoted ritual of menace, suffering, libido and joy. But it all goes irrevocably soggy on A Dream of You And Me – a song from 2014’s Singles album – when he starts Cossack dancing, and then licking his own arms. After some fine robot moves in the encore, Herring jokes that he hasn’t attempted them on stage since about 2004. – The Guardian

    PLEASE NOTE: We will not be offering our two for one deals on Monday 23rd of October, due to the Public Holiday. Apologies for the inconvenience.
    STONEGRILLS
    Every Monday and Tuesday we offer stonegrill meals – two for the price of one (the meal of lesser value is free)!
    If you haven’t had a Stonegrill meal before you should try it out - your food is cooked by YOU, at your table, on a 400 degree Celsius volcanic rock, with no added fats or oils. Just like a mini BBQ, cooked to perfection because you cooked it!
    This deal is available Monday and Tuesday*, Midday – 1.30pm, and then again from 5.30pm onwards. We only have a limited number of stones (and they take a good few hours in the oven to heat back up) so they're only available on a first-in, first-served basis. Get in quick so you don't miss out!
    * excluding public holidays
    STEAKS AND BURGERS
    If stonegrills don't tickle your fancy (or you missed out), never fear - we have 2 of our Porterhouse Steak meals for $35, or any 2 of our Burgers for $30. These deals are on every Monday and Tuesday* evening, from 5.30pm.

    KidzStuff Puppet Show and Workshop+
    Every fortnight The Cross celebrates free theatre for children with either a puppet show & workshop or an interactive production of a well known fairy tale from Playshop.
    *Please note that October's Puppet Show will be held a week early on Saturday 21st of October, not the 28th.
    Today we have Fingal from KidzStuff Theatre, our puppeteer master - she and her puppet friends have an exciting tale to tell, and their show will be followed by a puppet making workshop - just bring a sock and you could be leaving with a new puppet friend!
    Every other fortnight, on the second Saturday of the month, we host Playshop's interactive kids theatre productions, where the actors and kids recreate classic fairy tales, using dress ups, props and creative minds!
    As per all our activities at The Cross, the shows are free, so come one come all, bring a friend or three and enjoy some fun theatre and stories. Shows start at 11am in our Guest Room so make sure you're in nice and early to secure a good spot.
    These shows will go hand in hand with our other weekendly kids activities such as face painting, crafts and colouring-in. Check out our kids activities here, or sign up to our newsletter here to stay in the loop with other events and fun things happening at The Cross for the little ones.
    Southern Cross are proud sponsors of KidzStuff Theatre. If you enjoy these shows, check out their other plays and performances - usually in the school holidays!

    If you’re keen to come in for some kai and kids activities on the weekend, we recommend you give us a bell first to book a table.

    Monday & Tuesday Two-for-Ones+
    * excluding public holidays
    *excluding public holidays
